24 March – World TB Day

   In 24 March 1882 a German scientist Robert Koch told the world about the TB agent – Mycobacterium Tuberculosis, which was afterwards named after Koch. In 100 years International TB Union and WHO established World TB Day to be on 24 March.

   This Day is aimed at better awareness of TB spread among the population and TB mortality. TB kills 1,5 mln people annually. Today 1/3 of the world population does not know about their disease and more than 30% TB patients do not have an access to treatment.

   World TB Day 2016 is accompanied by the moto “Unite to End TB”.

   March 2016 is reach with activities in the EB Fund and the first was “Spring Marathon”. This activity involves campaigns on healthy lifestyle, TB prevention, smoking cessation, and volunteer training within the Russian-norwegian program “Stop TB in the North-Western Russia in Our Lifetime”.

  On 3 March A.Avdeeva held a campaign «We choose healthy lungs!» at the museum «Malye Karely» which involved distributing info materials and discussions. All those who wanted to check the lungs with Smokelyzer used this opportunity. The participants – NARFU graduate students and teachers (Arkhangelsk) and BFU master students from Kaliningrad.

   4 March was claimed as Healthy Day in «Belomorye» sanatorium. I.Gvozdeva held a quiz for 38 persons about TB spread in society and  TB prevention.

  On 4 March the Arkhangelsk Children Sanatorium arranged a performance «Joyful Company», devoted to the International Woman’s Day. EB Fund Manager A.Avdeeva held a short funny game «What do you do to be healthy and strong?» N.Nizovtseva thanked the guys for active participation in activities and the concert and presented them with the board games.

  On 11 March the team of the Fund together with the Head of the Department  for Youth, Sports and Tourism of Novodvinsk N. Stadulskaya organized training of volunteers (14 volunteers in all).
