TB Should Ground Arms New Approaches to This Disease Are Coming!

According to the plan of scientific activities of the Ministry of Health of Russia, Arkhangelsk hosted the interdistrict scientific conference with international participation “Tuberculosis, HIV and STD in the Russian Arctic” on 28-29 June 2016. The Conference was supported by LHL International and Easy Breathing Charity Fund.

There were 114 experts (phthisiatricians, infectionists, venerologists) in total from five regions: North-Western, Central, Southern, Siberian and Sakha Republic (Yakutiya).  Tatyana Chebagina, chief phthisiatrician of penal sector of Russia, Aleksander Smolensky, chief phthisiatrician of penal sector of the Arkhangelsk Oblast, and Einar Heldal, LHL International consultant (Norway) took active part in the Conference.

The Conference covered such issues as TB epidemiology, HIV, TB/HIV and STD in Russia, Arkhangelsk Oblast and Norway.  Chief phthisiatricians from Moscow, Arkhangelsk, Yakutiya, Rostov held reports on priority activities in fight against TB, HIV, TB/HIV and STD. There was also reports concerning the new forms of diagnostics, treatment and prevention of TB in the Arctic, North-West and other parts of Russia.

29 June the Arkhangelsk TB Dispensary provided an excursion through the facility where the participants could recognize new ways of TB molecular-genetic diagnostic, DOT based on digital remote control. Participants also could see the work of the electronic TB monitoring system which is successfully applied in the Arkhangelsk Oblast.
