The Global Problem: Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis

September 21, 2017 in Moscow, under the Russian-Netherlands bilateral working group on public health, a seminar was held in which the chairman of the EB Fund, N. I. Nizovtseva, took part. The seminar was held in preparation for the global ministerial conference of WHO "Ending TB in the era of sustainable development: a multi-sectoral response" (November 16-17, 2017) and the High-level Meeting on Tuberculosis of the UN General Assembly in 2018.

The seminar was organized by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Health, Social Affairs and Sports of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation, and the World Health Organization.

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Rene Jones-Bos and the State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Dmitry Kostennikov addressed the participants with a welcoming speech.

The moderator of the seminar was Melita Vuinovich, WHO Special Representative in the Russian Federation.

The seminar discussed the problems of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis and the possibilities of combating this disease, the positioning of tuberculosis in the context of a broader program on antimicrobial resistance, the correlation of social factors and TB / HIV.

Particular attention was paid to the relevance of the multisectoral approach and the rapid introduction of innovations to meet the challenge of a worldwide commitment - to eliminate tuberculosis.

The seminar was attended by Mario Raviglione, Director of the WHO Global Program on Tuberculosis; Masud Dara, Coordinator for Infectious Diseases, Head of the Unified Program for Tuberculosis, HIV / AIDS and Hepatitis (JTH), WHO Regional Office for Europe; Marya Esfeld, Senior Adviser on World Health and Innovation, Ministry of Health, Social Affairs and Sports of the Kingdom of the Netherlands; Kitty van Wesenbeek, Executive Director of the KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation; Gunta Dravnits, Senior Consultant on Tuberculosis of the KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation; Irina Vasilyeva, chief phthisiatrist of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, director of the National Medical Research Center for Phthisiopulmonology and Infectious Diseases; Grania Brihden, head of the "Reward for Life" project, the international union on tuberculosis and lung diseases (The Union).

The seminar was concluded by the speech of Teresa Kasaeva, Deputy Director of the Department for the organization of medical care and sanatorium affairs of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, the concept and perspectives of the forthcoming WHO Global Ministerial Conference and the discussion of the experience of individual countries with an emphasis on a multisectoral approach.
