Elimination of Tuberculosis in the Arkhangelsk Oblast

     In the Arkhangelsk Oblast, in the framework of Barents cooperation in the field of healthcare, the implementation of the Russian-Norwegian pilot project "Severodvinsk — a City Free from Tuberculosis" is going on. On 30.09.2020 there was a video conference with international participation of specialists of the TB service "Elimination of tuberculosis in the Arkhangelsk Oblast" on the learning platform Moodle of Northern State Medical University. More than 45 medical workers of our region took part in its work.  The video conference addressed the issues of the epidemic situation of tuberculosis in the Arkhangelsk Oblast for 8 months of 2020 in comparison with the same periods in 2019 and 2018. The report was presented by Anastasia Kulizhskaya, head of the Statistics Department of the Arkhangelsk Oblast Clinical TB Dispensary. She also provided the participants with information on the Federal register of tuberculosis patients, the electronic database of patients, the opportunities and prospects for the development of the Federal register, and the role of regional program Init-TB in monitoring tuberculosis in our region.

    Andrey Maryandyshev, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Phthisiopulmonology, Northern State Medical University, Ministry of Health of Russia (Moscow Arkhangelsk), chief non-staff specialist-phthisiologist of the North-Western Russia and chief non-staff specialist-phthisiologist of the Ministry of Health of the Arkhangelsk Oblast, had a report on the experience of organizing the work of the TB service in the conditions of restrictive measures caused by COVID-19 pandemic.  The Professor also presented WHO recommendations for the preventive treatment of tuberculosis.

    Elena S. Khimova, assistant of the Department of Phthisiopulmonology of the NSMU presented the report "Outcomes of treatment of patients with XDR-TB".

   Elena Nikishova, MD, Professor of the Department of Phthisiopulmonology of NSMU, presented a clinical observation - "Treatment of a child with XDR-TB using new TB drugs".

   Representative of the international organization Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Begimkul Kholikulov told the participants about the upcoming joint operational research on the topic "Short non-injection treatment regimens for patients with multiple and extensive drug-resistant tuberculosis".

   During the conference, experts asked questions on topics of interest to them, shared their experience and challenges.

   The acquired knowledge will be used in the work.

   And despite the new challenges that life puts before us, tuberculosis will be defeated as a common infectious disease in the near future.
