Results of implementation of Russian-Norwegian projects (June 2019 - September 2020)
The EB Fund together with its partners summarizes the results of the projects "Reduce the Burden of TB in the Murmansk Oblast", "Severodvinsk – a City Free of TB" and "Reduce the Burden of TB in the Komi Republic", which were extended for 4 months due to the Covid19 pandemic.
Most of the planned activities have been implemented, but the restrictions caused by the pandemic have prevented some of them from being conducted to the fullest.
The "Monitoring and supervision" component was partially implemented, since it was impossible to organize the physical participation of experts and consultants.
Most of the planned activities have been completed. Some have even been elevated due to more use active of digital technologies:
- VOT at the outpatient stage via Skype and other programs was widely used.
- the experience of working during the pandemic has expanded the possibilities of conducting online training events (video conferences, online seminars, courses, trainings). We can assume that the component "Competence strenghtening of medical workers in the TB service" has been completed, with the exception of the activities that require physical participation.
Home-based treatment was used more widely. The role of the component for providing individual material support to patients in need increased (food was delivered to their homes, clothing and shoes were purchased, travel to the place of examination and treatment was covered, and other types of material support were used).
Russian-Norwegian cooperation in this field of medicine makes it possible to apply modern scientific developments in practice, to develop scientific thought by publishing relevant articles in Russian and international journals.
Cooperation allows specialists from both countries to keep up with advanced technologies in the fight against tuberculosis and exchange experience that is used both in Norway and in Russia. Training events with international participation allow specialists to have a broader view on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis, tuberculosis in combination with other infections.
Specialists of the phthisiatric service and the medical community of the Republic of Komi, Murmansk Oblast, Severodvinsk and Arkhangelsk Oblast understand the importance of projects - this work is aimed at fighting tuberculosis and has positive results - the mortality and incidence of tuberculosis in these territories continues to decrease.
