24 March World TB Day
Tuberculosis continues to be a global threat to humanity. It is one of the 10 leading killers: 1.3 million people die from tuberculosis a year worldwide. According to experts, more than a quarter of the world's population is infected with TB and in unfavorable life situations this population group has a very high risk of falling ill with tuberculosis.

On 5 December 2019 the public meeting of the Council of the public
organizations for the protection of patients’ rights attached to the
territorial body of Roszdravnadzor in the Arkhangelsk Region and the
Nenets Autonomous District was held at the Northen State Medical
University and chaired by Professor Vorobyeva N.A. The issues of TB
prevention, diagnosis and treatment were considered at the meeting.

Health Communication in Murmansk
One of the topical issues regarding the organization of tuberculosis treatment is the ability of TB specialists to communicate effectively with patients. From November 18 to 22, 2019, within the framework of the international project “Reduce the Burden of TB in the Murmansk Oblast” EB Fund organized a Health Communication training in Murmansk.

Severodvinsk Medical Community Objectives to Reduce the Burden of TB and TB/HIV to the Possible Minimum in the Coming Years
On November 12, 2019, the Severodvinsk 1st City Hospital hosted the conference with the title Severodvinsk Medical Community Objectives to Reduce the Burden of TB and TB/HIV to the Possible Minimum in the Coming Years. The conference was attended by more than 60 medical workers of the city of shipbuilders.

Anna Eilertsen, LHL International Advisor, Visited EB Fund
From October 28 to 30, 2019, Anna Eilertsen, Advisor of LHL International (Norway), long-standing partner organisation, visited Easy Breathing Charity Fund. From October 1, 2019, Anna started coordinating joint projects. She met with the EB Fund staff, their work on the implementation of project activities.Plans for further joint work were outlined.

Best Practices Applied in the Arkhangelsk Oblast to Share with the Partners
According to experts, the model of the triumvirate that has been developed in the Arkhangelsk Oblast - a partnership of practical healthcare (TB service in the civil and penitentiary sector), science and education (NSMU) and the third party (Easy Breathing Charity Fund) - has proved its effectiveness in prevention of tuberculosis, tuberculosis and HIV and is proposed for implementation in other territories. The EB Fund, together with partners, continues this cooperation, spreading the accumulated knowledge.

The Final Year of Implementation: “Reduce The Burden of Tuberculosis in the Komi Republic”
A number of meetings were conducted from 15 to 17 July 2019 in Syktyvkar, at the Republican TB Dispensary, between the EB Fund Chair Nina Nizovtseva, Deputy Minister of the Komi Republic Igor Maklakov, Head Doctor of the tuberculosis Dispensary Sergey Vodopyanov, the participants of the project team - Ekaterina Zhiglova, Olga Mayorova and other workers of the dispensary.

Severodvinsk - a City Free from Tuberculosis
In 2014, the Global Strategy to End Tuberculosis was adopted at the Assembly of the World Health Organization. For 20 years (from 2015 to 2035), it is thought to achieve a 95% reduction in tuberculosis mortality and a 90% reduction in the number of new cases. Special attention is paid to population groups with increased vulnerability to tuberculosis infection, as well as to groups with limited access to health care. To achieve these goals, many service need to work together: healthcare, social protection, non - governmental organizations and the world communitiy as a whole.

Launch of Cooperation with the Murmansk Oblast
“Reduce The Burden of TB in the Murmansk Oblast” - this is a new initiative in this area. A number of meetings were held from 09.07 to 11.07.19 at the Murmansk TB Dispensary between the EB Fund and TB workers on the implementation of the international project.

Public Council Meeting
On April 15, 2019 a meeting of the Public Council under the Ministry of Health of the Arkhangelsk Oblast was held. The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister of the Arkhangelsk Oblast, representatives of non-profit organizations, healthcare institutions and the media.

On this day, in 1882, the German scientist Robert Koch announced that he had succeeded in discovering the bacterium that causes tuberculosis, thanks to which in the future it became possible to develop methods of diagnosing and treating this disease.

Cooperation in the Republic of Komi goes on
Within the framework of the Russian – Norwegian project "Reduce the TB burden in the Republic of Komi" Nina Nizovtseva, Chair of the Fund, Irina Afanasenkova and Alexandra Avdeeva visited the Republican TB dispensary in the beginning of December 2018. The purpose of the trip is the assistance in the implementation of project activities, discussion of further steps, update of cooperation plans for 2019 - 2020.

How to communicate effectively
In December 3-7, 2018 in Syktyvkar within the Russian
- Norwegian project "Reduce the TB burden in the Republic of Komi" a Health
Communication training was held. Among
the participants were health workers of the TB service and AIDS Centre. Within
five days, the participants mastered modern ways of effective communication
with patients and colleagues, the practice of dealing with stress and
professional burnout, learned to control emotions.
